The sky is the color of lead, darkened by smoke and gunpowder.


Witches:
Females born with magical talent are branded as witches.
Being a rare, 1-in-100 kind of breed, a witch is blessed with one specific power that defies the laws of the world.
The magic of a witch never changes in her life, but some eventually lose their power for unknown reasons.
Those with magical talents are commonly expended as weapons of war, but in the case that they can no longer be salvaged, they are quickly discharged from the military with little to no remuneration.

Ciel (CV: Hachi Kumoya)

Ciel was abandoned in front of an educational facility for those with magical talents.
All she had on her was a ragged piece of cloth and the name Ciel.

Ever since, she was trained as a witch.
Under your command in the past few years, she had earned a fair share of merits in war.

She expressed no signs of discontent with being used like a weapon, and believed deeply that her reason of existence was to battle. To her, the name Ciel, meaning the sky, was fitting in a self-deprecating sort of way. The sky, after all, was just as tainted by blood and soot as herself.

She has been discharged from the military after losing her magical powers, and she is now at a loss as to what her worth is.


You, the Commander

You were a commander who led a squad with witches.

You were capable on the field, but your tendency to treat witches as if they were human had cut short your political career and made you certain enemies. When you protested against your superiors for discharging Ciel so promptly after she nearly lost her life protecting your squad, that spelled the end of your political standing.

You decided to leave the army and took custody of Ciel, starting a new life in the rural regions of your hometown.
