Silkroad is an action puzzle platform game.

The main character, Silk, has the ability to perform several actions. She can jump, she can jump on top of enemies, she can stun enemies by hitting them with bubbles, and she can also dissolve a block directly underneath her by - get this - throwing up. Her stomach contents are definitely very strong to be able to do that. XD

The objective of the game is to collect all the fruit in a given stage. Silk can throw up as many times as she has collected fruit. This is a very important game mechanic because the player needs to take into account how high she can jump and how many blocks she can dissolve. If you make a mistake in which order to collect fruit, you won't be able to collect certain ones placed behind or underneath rows and columns of blocks. There's a "suicide" button which will allow you to end the game and restart the level if you get stuck.

While the game appears to be very simple, there's a lot of complexity within the puzzles which will make the player think and then have fun trying to figure out how to solve them. The puzzle levels are extremely clever and it's fairly obvious a lot of thought went into the creation of the game.

There are several game modes - the regular puzzle mode in which the emphasis is on puzzle solving, an action mode in which the emphasis is beating up and/or avoiding hectic enemy attacks while collecting fruit, and a third mode which must be unlocked. There's plenty in this game to keep a player entertained for many hours (assuming the player likes puzzles games).

The in-game menus are in English, so the game is friendly to those who don't read Japanese.

Silkroad is highly recommended for fans of puzzle games and action platform games.

Pr*Cure-ACT, or to be more precise, PreCure-ACT, is a side-scrolling 2D doujin action game. For those familiar with Japanese animation, they will recognize the characters are from "Futari wa Purikyua" or "Pretty Cure."

Aside from the names of the two main characters, I knew next to nothing of what Pretty Cure is about at the time of purchase. I didn't buy the game based on the source material. I purchased based on the demo available from the developer's web site. It was more than enough to convince me it's definitely worth upgrading to the full version.

PreCure-ACT perfectly captures the essence of what made games in the 8 and 16-bit console eras fun. The game was designed in a way to make the player initially fail. With a little bit of practice, the player can eventually learn the skills necessary to progress further. There's a lot of satisfaction to be gained from observing one's own playing skills improve. Older games forced players to get better at manipulating the game's physics before they could get anywhere. The fun came from the player conquering the obstacles presented in such games. This is this essence present in PreCure-ACT.

The game's difficulty settings allow a wide range of players to try their hand at the game. Whether the player is a seasoned veteran or is an absolute newbie, there are enough difficulty levels to allow a player of any skill level to play at the appropriate setting.

The game keeps track of the total time played and any items (cards) acquired during previous play. The cards are power up items or extra lives. Once a card is collected, the player can take advantage of the benefits when a new game is started. If the game suddenly becomes too easy to the player because of the acquisition of cards, the difficulty setting can be adjusted to the appropriate level in subsequent play.

Fans of 2D action games definitely need to give PreCure-ACT a chance to win them over. It's a good game, a lot of fun, and highly recommended.

For the price I figured "why not". I was surprised by the quality and length of the music. There are quiet a few different sounds, some songs do have a odd vibe to them, but I have found no songs in this pack to be unlikeable. The author wasn't kidding when they said original sounds. There are a few tracks only 30 seconds, but they are nicely looped and are perfect bgm music like the rest of the pack.

This is a very hard gun shooting game!

  • Release: Sep/24/2009

Sayauchi is a mouse based shooter. Even if you don't know a lick of Japanese, it is quite easy to play. You can click to shoot the baddies, right-click to use a bomb (kill all on screen), or click on Saya to reload your gun. The graphics are top notch, very similar to the batting scenes in Little B*sters, and the music is light and fun. Part of the beauty of sayauchi is each game is fairly short (however long you can last) so its good to play when you don't want to get sucked into a longer title (when waiting for something or such situations). Of course I recommend this for Little B*sters fans but non-fans may also find this fun with its low learning curve and cute art.

This game works fine on Windows 7 64-bit.

Yamato Battleship Paper Craft
$20.19 / 2,268JPY
Paper craft model of the Yamato battleship, 1/800 scale. Total length about 33cm.
  • Release: Dec/09/2007
  • Purchased: 3x

A wonderful model, at a very unusual scale, being 1/800 scale. I have many other one eight hundreth scale models, but this model looks by far the most detailed I have ever seen, especially for this scale. I would definately purchase more etsutan models, as they focus on unusual subjects. This is a five star model, even though is very hard to make, it had so many wonderful details, it is amazing! model has every possible detail, as I can not stop admiring how wonderful it is. To shorten it up, the best model I have seen, along with Nagato.

Paper craft model of the Nagato battleship, 1/400 scale. Total length about 54cm.

The papercraft etsutan 1/400 Nagato is a completely wonderful model. It has many details, including floatplanes and a model stand. Among these wonderful features are the fact that you can make it either a waterline or a full hull model(the reason the stand is included) I would give this model a five star rating, since it also has magnificent color and parts are nicely laid out, and very well organized.

TRINITY -Orchestra Side-
$11.54 / 1,296JPY
Music from Touhou's Seirensen is arranged into orchestral style.
Inc. Music
  • Release: Jan/14/2010
  • Purchased: 1x

Keywords the reviewer selected :

The "Trinity" series is a collection of arrangements in 3 different styles: Orchestra (the one I am reviewing) Metal which is the other product on this site and Trance which was only released on the Japanese DLsite.

This album took me by surprise. When I heard the demos on their website of the orchestral arrangements I wasn't really satisfied with the effort put in. But it was that track translated as "In Minato of Spring" that was the real hook of this album. The arrangement is superb a nice blend of Piano and String parts exchanging the relaxing melody. The music also kept me interested with the introduction of a Harp part and a synthesised Trumpet. Then you have the very tranquil beat happening throughout in the background supporting each part and I thought this was really cleverly done on a production level.

The rest of the music is very good however most instrument samples used are just virtual instruments meaning the strings will sound "midi" like in a way. This didn't really disappoint me since the arrangement and ideas kept each track interesting. Other tracks include a "Pirate of the Caribbean" type of arrangement and some Chamber arrangements of your favourite Touhou themes (String music). Again the production is great but I felt the choice of virtual instruments was abit rushed in comparison to virtual synthesisers used in the Western film and television market.

When the Trinity series was brought to my attention I actually brought all the albums on the Japanese Dlsite simply because I couldn't wait for it to show up on Eng Dlsite. "Trinity Trance" is the best album out of the series however it's not available to purchase on this site. But if you want one album from Frontier Create this one will take you by surprise. It's worth picking up if your interested in music arrangements and production.

Pickup!Rouza Musou a fun little game

This is a horizontal scrolling action game using flash.

  • Release: Nov/28/2009

Keywords the reviewer selected :

So, first thing.... Nothing sexy about this game, unless the outfits the characters wear do it for you. This is all about good ol' fashioned violence and making things explode in a burst of blood and squishy noises (or bleats...).

I played through the free demo of this game from the author's site, and it was good enough to convince me to sign up and buy the full version. It's a really enjoyable little game, with the ranking systems providing a bit of replayability. The download's inclusion of the MIDI and MP3 files used in the game was a nice little bonus.

If you have no particular fondness for the series the game is based on, then there's a lot of generic Flash games out there you could play that substitute load-screen advertising for cost. But for fans, it's a nice (and cute) little homage to a memorable scene. (And loads right away instead of making you sit through an ad like said advertising-based games.)

Conclusion: Play the demo, decide if twice as much gameplay and several more bosses is worth it. It's nothing fancy but what do you want for the cost equivalent of two small plastic toys from a vending machine? A better value than a lot of things at the same price.

I downloaded this game on a whim and I found that this game though it has its faults it is verrrrry addictive because you have a maximum of 3 cute but lethal maids at your disposal to shoot the everliving crap out of various enemies that are throne at you maybe they need there rooms cleaned or they haven't had a good home cooked meal I don't know but it was fun while it lasted and when I get enough money or points I will most likely download the full version for the fact that you can only pick one of the three maids due to the fact that IT'S ONLY A DEMO

AQUA CUBE is quite a refreshing doujin Puzzle game taking elements from FoxEye's previous freeware game Holdover along with others like block pushing from Sokoban, and packages it into one unique game.

All of FoxEye's games have a similiar theme and derived game mechanic:

Heavy emphasis on Underwater exploration, and management of Oxygen for the player characters.

The storyline is quite simple and bare-bones, but it helps establish the setting and the game.

The game also smoothly ramps up the difficulty as you progress along.

The later levels in the game pose quite a challenge, with stuff like switches, different types of blocks, environmental hazards, etc. Going through the later levels is an exercise in finding the solutions of the puzzle, often with complications like the one who you rescue is underwater, thus placing a time limit on rescuing , changing the water level or moving the trapped character above the water.

One of the frustrations players will encounter is that the level becomes unsolvable, somtimes even early in the level.

Fortunately, a "Restart Level" option is handily available, which allows a player to restart the whole level instantaneously.

The graphics of the game, being deformed 3D models, is nothing to write home about. However, the character portraits and talking heads are very well done and lively.

Finally, the Omake (Extra Materials) Included with the game are top-notch. Despite the imperfect translation of the Developer's comments and the Omake Manga, I still very much enjoyed the Omake material. The Wallpapers and CG Gallery are nicely done as well.

All in all, I would recommend this game for the doujin gamer who enjoy simple lighthearted puzzle / adventure games.
