Really nice horizontal 2d shmup with super cute and colorful graphics. The music has that catchy style of 16-bit games, and the stages are varied with nice parallax scrolling. It is fairly easy on the easy difficulty setting, but at hard it becomes a challenge. It feels like a lost super nintendo game (sort of like cotton 100%), supports gamepads (I'm using an xbox 360 controller), and supports fullscreen with smooth scrolling. Definitely worth it for fans of the style. Was this review helpful to you? [ Report Abuse ] |

A very enjoyable 2d action shooter with mechs. In each stage you need to destroy a certain number of stationary enemies in order to unlock the exit. You can switch between two weapons, and after several stages there is a boss and then you go to the next world. It feels much like an early super nintendo game, supports gamepads (I'm using an xbox 360 controller), and supports fullscreen with smooth scrolling. Was this review helpful to you? Your Game Creaters specializes in recreating classic games. Their other title here, Near Fantasy Space, does a fantastic job of making a game like Fantasy Z*ne. With Peace Breaker they have made a game in the sidescrolling action mecha category (much like Target E*rth on the Sega Genesis) and they have done a very good job overall. The graphics are very well done and I'm happy the game offers a full-screen mode with very smooth scrolling graphics. My only complaint is the difficulty, which is punishing to say the least. I remember Target E*rth being hard, but this seems even harder! Still fun! Was this review helpful to you? [ Report Abuse ] |

The game Near Fantasy Space is really a love letter to Sega's Fantasy Z*ne. Essentially, if you like Fantasy Z*ne you will like this game. The creators really nailed both the art style and the music style that made Fantasy Z*ne so unique and these almost feel like the extra stages that were never released. There is a shop in the game with quite a few weapons and all of them are very appropriate. My only wish is for an easier mode or a level select (unless I somehow missed this?). If you are a fan of colorful scrolling shooter or action RPGs you should definitely pick this title up... especially at this price. The artwork is not hi-res, but it is wonderfully done. There is an RPG aspect to the game (talking to various characters to unlock new areas), but so far it seems that you should be able to get through it even if you don't speak japanese. My only wish is that it had some sort of vsync option, because there can be visible screen tearing. Still, at this price you can't go wrong! Was this review helpful to you? [ Report Abuse ] |

Mission to Depths is a side-scrolling action platformer. I have not yet completed the game, but based on what I have read it appears to have three worlds, each with a major end boss at the finish of the world. That may not sound like a lot at first, but I can say the first world is huge, with a massive end boss. Based on my play time so far, I believe this is a good value for the price. The game moves very smoothly and the animation and artwork are great. This almost feels like a lost SNES game at a higher resolution. My only issue is that there does not appear to be a way to fun the game in full-screen mode. If they could add a patch to offer a full screen option, that would be great! This game definitely channels the spirit of the older 16-bit games. The graphics aren't the absolute best, but they are very nice and have a 16-bit spirit to them. There is also a nice level of parallax scrolling throughout the game. There is a system where you earn multiple weapons and can switch between them, almost like a slower-paced Thunder Force game. There are multiple difficulty settings and I think even people who are pretty good at shooters will find some challenge at the higher settings. Overall worth a purchase. This game is simply one of the best shmups around. It looks beautiful, everything runs extremely smoothly, and it features a complex system with bullet patterns that are nearly at a CAVE level of quality. The music is also wonderful and deserves to be listened to on its own. There is a shop system where you can buy items and you earn the money for this through playing the game. This give a nice incentive for reply, although the base game is good enough you shouldn't need one! At this price you should not pass this up! Was this review helpful to you? [ Report Abuse ] |

Phantasm is an enjoyable older horizontally scrolling shootemup (shmup). It is nice, with good music and artwork. Visually is it reminiscent of a super nintendo title. However, it is very tough. It features a story mode and you can play individual stages in practice mode. Also note that on windows 7 the game can have some issues with an xbox 360 controller (at least in my experience), but it plays fine with a keyboard. Was this review helpful to you? [ Report Abuse ] |
