Okay so I've only completed 2 endings and I'm on the way to a third (out of ~11) but this game was worth the almost two year wait!
I've always been huge into these spookier, grittier, depressing stories over a more upbeat or mysterious one, so seeing Tennenouji take a stab at it and knock it out of the park was very pleasant to say the least. The UI, dialogue, gameplay, and art really lend itself to the feeling of being an overseer to an experiment, and not really the one in charge either. It's a very sanitized but menacing aura.
Now about East and West... Ohhhh my....... I could write a tear-soaked novel about how much I love them and my thoughts on their relationship but I'll spare the details and say this: They have a very complex relationship but, ultimately, one of strong and perhaps unconditional love. At least, that's what I gleam from West's advances and behavior. Even beyond anything cerebral like that, they're just a really cute couple and I love to watch them interact with eachother!
All that is to say, amazing game. Cute and horrifying and wonderful and sad, all in one package for you to unlock! (haha pun) Only downside is no voice acting, but the strong willed do not care for such small disparities. Please please please check this out, Tennenouji are very underrated in the western BLVN space and deserve much more recognition after all they've done for the genre!!
God I've loved Lamento for the longest time it's my #1 favourite BLVN and probably my fave VN in general. I originally played it with a physical copy, but I'm so glad it's here officially now! For me, Lamento has something about the combination of amazing storytelling and worldbuilding with a compelling plot and stakes that you FEEL and characters you actually get heavily invested in.
I find with a lot of fantasy stories (whether VN or not) tend to make the stakes really high but never stress the impact it has on the characters, nor give any reason for the audience to care about what happens to them. In Lamento, on the other hand, you're hoping your god dang best for Konoe and his crew. You KNOW that catboy, you KNOW what he struggles with, you KNOW his hopes, his dreams, his fears, his insecurities. Same goes for the LIs as well. You get their motivations and why they do what they do and that makes you INVESTED. And invested you shall be!
My first route (Asato my beloved) was about 45 hours long from launch to end, and I'm a fast reader. I know people who have spent almost 50-55 on a single route. That time is not wasted though. It feels like every single second is used phenomenally, utilizing the writing, visuals, music, audio, and even the UI to immerse you into the world of Sisa.
Speaking of time and visuals, one of my favourite things Lamento does that's different from the other Chiral games is how it handles fight scenes. Because of the setting, physical altercations are way more common than in some of Chiral's later works. This combination allows the writing team to really write some amazing action sequences, complete with VFX and well-planned fight choreography; something that just screams early Nitroplus.
To end off this review, I'll say that it's a game you'll be wishing you'd be able to forget about and experience all over again. I like to tell my friends it's a months long endeavor, but 100 worth it, especially at the price its listed for.

I don't usually see a lot of story in these types of voice dramas but it was very nice and sweet! I appreciate that a lot after what some put me through LOL. Only docking a star for the translation though. I've seen way worse (hell, I play VNs with machine translation sometimes LMAO) but for a translation provided by the creator themselves, they could've proofread it a little more. Overall I'd say its a solid listen!
