Impressive indie fighter

I can't claim to be an expert on the fighting game genre, but when it comes to "passion projects", and games that just feel good, Project Atsuki's "Axel City" delivers.

The game boasts an impressive lineup of 21 fighters - 20 unique, plus one "evil" variant (Axel City's version of "Evil R*u", if you like). Each character is well-drawn and wonderfully animated, with a wealth of special moves and super specials, and the combat feels fast and fluid.

Pick Up !Great Fighting Game

For a game created using 2D Fighter Maker, this is one of the more polished ones. Axel City plays a lot like an anime-based fighter, with combo-heavy mechanics and flashy gameplay.

The story is interesting too; it is recommended to try all the characters out as the endings do tie in with each other. There's a good amount of characters in the game so you'll have a lot of replayability with this game.

It's recommended to play this with the free Thien-Ron patch, which will significantly increase the roster to 33 characters. The free patch is available online.

Good

As a doujin game, it is well done. The characters are well drawn, as the cutscenes are.

In some fights (Agito for instance) the opponent stays in one side of the screen and won't move, increasing his Axel Gauge and then just punches in the wind when you come to him/her.

One the other hand, Reydey, and others, move well and fight without waiting.

The roster is nice and the ambiance is great, served well by the story artwork.

As a conclusion, it is really a good doujin fighting game.

Good fighting games are rare on the computer, and this one is a good doujin fighting game.
