Pickup!High Learning Curve, Great Rewards

The first game ponidog created, it plays as a Hana Fuda card game where the player must match up specific combination of cards to earn points. Unlike their later release of "Haro: Tale of the Western Country", Way was not translated by native English speakers. Because of that, the translation of the game is poorly done and confusing at time especially to newcomers who will be in need of the instructions and tips to the game.

However, despite the unnecessary high learning curve to the game due to the poor translation. Once you come to understand how to play the game, you'll find playing it challenging and rewarding. Those familiar with ponidog's other game would know already that the classic oil painting art style of the game is very well done. While the game is animated, it is simple and nothing special.

This is a game that is fun and awarding to play if you are willing to be deal with the poor translation as well as figuring out the mechanics of the game.

Pickup!Solitaire... With Benefits!

At first, I didn't quite know what to make of this title. Between the fairly poor quality translation, confusing instructions and downright unfair difficulty presented by some of the opponents, I was beginning to think I had made a mistake buying this one. Luckily, I stuck with it, and the experience grew on me over time.

After you get the hang of the basic strategies and start building up your skill level in the training mode, things get a lot easier. It's a matter of going for small, incremental gains against your opponents until you can get more cards on the field consistently and can make bigger combos.

The card game itself is pretty good. It's 'Way' better (tee hee) than any card game that comes packaged with Windows, to say the least. Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot of strategy involved, and most of the gameplay is up to luck. This can get pretty frustrating at times, particularly when you're one card away from making a big combo and your opponent lays it on the field, only to instantly get a card of the same number, allowing them to snatch it right out from under your nose. Still, being able to unlock different scenes and different parts of the story keeps things interesting, and if you're in the right mood the game can really draw you in.

As for the other aspects of the game, the drawings are nice, but the animation is nothing to write home about. The story is pretty convoluted, and the poor translation doesn't help much. Other than the bare minimum rules, the objective of the game and how to unlock things isn't very well explained; I had to go to offsite forums to figure out how to gain experience and whatnot.

Overall, the core card gameplay is fun and challenging, if a bit grindy, and the scenes and story should provide enough motivation for most people to keep slogging through the match ups. Definitely provides enough replay value to be worth the price, so this one gets a buy recommendation from me.

Pickup!Finding the Way to Glory

Tripped over the site a lil late in life, but enjoying it anyway. What an interesting game. My first download and I haven`t stopped playing. Hana Fuda is simple and very challenging. Once you unlock(if u can figure out how) some of the girls the graphics get nicely pornographic. Would of been nice to have some of the expletives from female characters translated cause being an ignorant gajin I read no Japanese. Oh yea and I will be downloading Haro I know works from PoniDog will be outstanding!

Pickup!Great Gameplay

Way is heavily revolved around the cardgame, a variation of hanafuda (the main difference is that scoring only matters for the player, not the opponent). Almost everything revolves around the and how well you do. Very little choice is made outside the cardgame that determines anything.

The Cardgame's AI does seem rather poorly programed, even for later stages in the game. It could be argued that either only your hand matters and the AI should play to stop you from winning or the that it should play a normal game as though it could win. Unfortunate, the AI does neither. It doesn't really try to get any combos usually. Multiple times I've seen the AI put down a card that 2/4 had been played and captured already when it still had a card that could take something on the field and it didn't have card #4. I've also seen it lay cards that gave me a decent of points only to put something out later that gave me zero. This is the same for the basic training mode as it is for some of the sex matches.

The artwork is fairly good quality as well, especially the designs on the cards are very detailed. The sex scenes are semi-animated, but nothing like other games out there. Don't be expecting too much there.

The storyline is done in bits a pieces between cardgames. You have to meet certain hidden criteria. You can usually tell a storyline advance because you'll either advance in sex scenes and/or the screen will give a white flash.

The game gives some hints on how to advance the game and make it easier on yourself, but they are vague. Some people might not like this vagueness, though I think it lends a nice sense of reality to the game, without making it too difficult most of the time to know what you need to do.

The translation quality on the game is haphazard. There are some really good phrases and then there are a lot of poorly worded items. There is also a lot of directly direct offensive language as well which might turn off some players.

One of my favorites. The game can be addictive as you try to unlock everything. The artwork is great. The translation is is pretty pathetic and doesn't make much sense in most cases. However, it doesn't really detract from the game.

Pickup!Engaging, and filled with content

So far, I will have to give Way a mark of distinction among all the games I've played off DLsite. It's the only one where I'm not sure I've seen everything...and I've most likely played more of it than any other title as well. (Of course, I did restart several times for one reason or another. I definately haven't seen everything from Haro, for roughly the same reason.)

The triggers to advance the character storylines and the main story aren't too obvious. The game appears to drop hints along the way, but in many cases you're not quite sure whether or not any more can be done with a certain character.

I have encountered one crash bug in a specific area of the game (with 1.9c,) and some untranslated parts which mar the presentation slightly. The translation from Japanese to English also wasn't perfect, but it was definately understandable and a very good effort.

The art has a fantastic surreal quality in that it looks far more like oil painting than a CG image, which definately sets it apart from the other titles I've played.

All in all, I'd say it's the best hentai game I own.

Pickup!Beats Solitaire, Good To Pass the Time

If you like playing computer card games this little erotic romp is both challenging and fun. I picked it up since I liked ponidogs other game and while I was at first a bit confused it wasn't too long before I got the hang of it.

The game is an erotic version of hana-fuda, and does have a reasonable (if strangely worded) explanation of the rules. I had never played the game, but ended up figuring it out with the help from the tutorial and trial and error.

Since it is a card game there is an element of luck involved, and sometimes even the best play won't bring a winning hand. The accumulation of points with the girl you are "training" can lead to other "stages" in the game. There is nothing fantastic about the additional scenes, but it is fun to see how far you can go. One odd penalty of the game is that if you are not careful you can make a girl "pregnant", after which you can't use her without going though a few hoops in another game mode.

Try the demo, but if it seems a bit hard to figure out don't fret too much. I will say that if you get this game you will probably never play solitaire again.
