Pretty Good for Valkyria's First Animated Feature

Based off the Valkyria game of the same name 'Rape! Rape! Rape! Volume 01' has no real plot to speak of. Given it's source material this should not come as a surprise, as the game itself had virtually no plot as well, but the film cuts it even slimmer. Apparently the first of several volumes covering all the events/females of the game, we follow the 'adventures' of a thus far entirely anonymous rapist as he attacks a young woman in her home, a shoplifter at a store, a pregnant woman in a public park, and a blond school girl in an alley. Each of these are scenes from the game, though they do not play out entirely the same.

The character designs stick close to the ones in the game. Some of the finer details seemed to have been dropped to make animation easier, which is a shame as many recent hentai films have proven keeping complicated designs intact turn out a superior looking product. Never the less, the woman are all attractive and well-drawn. The animation is smooth and Valkyria wisely opted against the 'hyper-sex' speed ups that many animated features seem to use lately.

None of the scenes are all that extreme in their depiction of the rapes, but the girls clearly do not enjoy their experience. The only real character development in the film surrounds the rapist's first victim and the mental trauma she suffered from the event. So far, this isn't one of those h-titles where violated women fall in lust/love with their attacker. In fact, it's hard not to sympathize with the poor girls. We only see the fall-out from the first attack, but you are left to wonder if the others aren't going through the same emotional issues. Given how unrepentant and cruel the rapist seems, there is actually some potential here to deconstruct the whole rape-genre, though it is doubtful they'll take the series in this direction.

Despite the unsettling nature of the h-scenes themselves, this is a good first effort from Valkyria and a decent launch for a series.
