Decent retro action

Caryo's "A4" - which stands for "Aegis Attack All Androids") is a slightly flawed but ultimately worthwhile platform shooter in the M*ga M*n style.

The description boasts "starring Igis from P3", which means very little to me, but didn't detract in any way from the core action, which involves manouvring a female android (?) across multiple levels destroying robots with an assortment of weapons - the classic arm-cannon, grenades with little faces and hands on them, and a distinctly O.P. whip/tentacle attack.

Your end of level bosses are of the magical girl variety, with detailed CG illustrations as your reward for victory.

It's not without issues. Fairly often the enemy placement will almost guarantee you take a hit or two that you couldn't have avoided, although enemies also drop health pickups quite regularly - a cheap workaround, but not uncommon among retro throwbacks, plus this *is* an H game, so adjust your expectations accordingly. That, and the core gameplay is fun enough.

Ultimately, a good time.

Fun game, not so good as an h-product though

Possibly the most ‘game’ I’ve ever experienced in an hentai game, Caryo did a surprisingly good job with A4. What you have is a Megaman style game. You, in control of a blond android girl, run through four different levels blasting enemies, leaping over pitfalls, and collecting power-ups. The control, amazingly, is good. It’s not sticky, slow, or unresponsive. Getting your timing right on a few of the jumps can be difficult, but it’s nothing frustrating.

This isn’t something you’d have fun spending hours playing, but you can get through the whole thing in less than half an hour. The boss fights, with one exception, are all extremely easy. Most of them cannot stand up to more than two blasts of your bomb/big weapon power, which itself recharges to full every level.

What A4 lacks in is actual h-content. It’s MORE of a game than it is a hentai product. Every time you defeat a boss, you are treated to a very attractively drawn scenes of them either having sex or being attacked by tentacles, these scenes consist only of one image and an alternate. There is a little text accompanying each, but no real story and no voice acting either, meaning the hentai goes past in an eye blink. You can also unlock h-scenes of your blond android girl by accumulating points, but like the boss scenes these are all EXTREMELY short. Either one image & alternatives or just really short animation loops. The content of each varies and some take a turn for the less pleasant (notably, into bestiality), but as all of them are so short it’s sort of hard to complain. There isn’t much there to complain about.

I can’t recommend this product as an h-product, because the h-content just isn’t there. Too little at all. While the game itself is actually rather fun, it’s also just a second-rate Megaman and you’re really better off digging up a copy of that. A4 has a lot of good qualities to it, but added up they just really don’t make that great of a product.
