Nothing Great

Dragon Edge seems to change artists in nearly every work they put out and the quality changes a lot depending on who they use. Tifa2 is a bit better than Tifa1, though still not particularly good. The designs look too sharp at the edges and there is very little feel for dimensions. Tifa remains a design that artists seem to love and Dragon Edge does a bit better job representing her than they did in Tifa1, though it’s not really a major improvement. The shading job at least improved somewhat, but there is still a lot more room for improvement. To note, the backgrounds in this product were extremely good at least and easily the best seen in a Dragon Edge product so far.

Animation, as is more or less typical of a Dragon Edge product, is unimpressive. It tends towards extremely stiff motions that have the look of an animation done with paper cutouts. Tifa2 suffers from more than a few instances where it’s nearly imposable to tell just what the intention was. Things move without any clear rhyme or reason and telling ceiling from floor is a puzzle. Even figuring out exactly where characters are in location to one another can be difficult, as they often use sexual positions not designed by man or nature.

I’ve been a bit rough on Tifa2 so far, so I will at least say that the voice acting was good. Not the best featured in a Dragon Edge product, but the actress did a good job none the less, offering some truly impressive outbursts.

Tifa1 showed a lot of potential, but as a sequel Tifa2 squanders it. Instead of an evolution, it’s a regression to their more unimpressive works like Witch. Despite it’s somewhat better art and very good backgrounds, it still felt inferior to the first (which itself was not their best offering). If you’re a big Dragon Edge or Tifa fan, you may enjoy this work, but there are better products in their line up for anyone else.
