Interview: Pink Pencil (April 2017)

Interview: Pink Pencil
This month our interview features the cricle Pink Pencil who creates a big hit Point Click Adventure game "Framboise in Pervertville"!! We hope you enjoy the read!

1. Thank you so much for this interview! To start things off, could you please introduce yourself to the DLsite.com users?

Let's say this way – I'm an old guy, happy married, have adult kids. I have a good steady job in adult industry. I'm Russian and I'm happy. My job is not related to games or art in any way.

2. How did you come up with your Circle's name "Pink Pencil"?

Just very spontaneously. Like "art" is related to "pencil" and "pink" has some sexual connotation. Some algebra and voila.

3. What led your path to becoming a professional creator? Was there something that specifically triggered your desire to begin creating games/illustrations?

I'm thinking of myself as an amateur game maker. Not even "indie." Game making is my hobby, and sometimes, a way to learn things like "how to speedup drawing transparent images with using MMX" in a fun way. I started with an adult platformer game, "Bootor" in 2001 ~ 2002. It was made in pure assembly. The art was made with some early version of Poser and old good DPaint. It had some sales; so from that point, I began my career in this field. However, I found that adult comics which is made with 3D software bring much more money comparing with game-making to me, so that I went back to creating 3D games in 2013. Actually, I don't expect much income from my games; therefore, good sales is a nice bonus for me.

4. Why did you select DLsite.com to market your product?

Today, it seems that DLsite.com is the only site which manage extreme contents like rape and bestiality. I think DLsite.com is a "safe harbor" for creators and fans in that regards. Also, DLsite and CuriosFactory are good examples of how publishers can build a nice environment for creators.

5. Have you ever purchased any products from DLsite.com? If so, who is your favorite artist/creator and what are your favorite products?

Shame, but never. But thinking about to buy some game-music and sound effects for next project. My expenses are mostly to buy software, 3D things and audio contents. Moreover, I simply have no time to play games.

6. How many people were involved in the creation of "Framboise in Pervertville "? Would you please tell us a little bit about your team?

Me only. This is true, regarding "Pervertiville" and all other "Framboise" games. My cooperation with Rend (he's a great 3D artist, a real pro in 3Dmax. He is also a friend of mine. Some art collections are available on DLsite) ended up helping with me for some parts; but later, he lost his interest in game making. We had some great plans of creating adult quest games; but unfortunately, nothing was really made except some engine prototype. Good news is that I was able to use some of these old codes in "Pervertville" game. So again, everything – art, audio, programming – is on my shoulders. Frankly, I am happy to meet good artists and start a teamwork though.

7. Since 2013, you have constantly released products on DLsite.com. You have released both games and 3DCG collections. How do you plan to release each genre? Do you just spontaneously decide next product as "a game" or "a 3DCG collection?"

I still consider that "Framboise in Torture Chambers" is my best game; Therefore, I'm pretty surprised at the popularity of "Framboise in Pervetville." With this result, I may create another "point and click" adventure. I have a project in mind like "Framboise in Area 51." Another idea is to skip programming and focus on comic series… but this is still undecided.

8. "Framboise in Pervertville" is a huge hit; many players are enjoying it. For those who have not yet seen it or played it, please tell us about what they will see and can expect on this game?

This game is a sequel of previous game with the same heroine. It's a "point and click" quest. You play as a nude girl exploring some weird town in Europe. At the beginning, you have no clues of what to do. You can move from a location to another with arrow keys and clicking screen reveals hotspots. You can pick up objects and try to use them with different characters. Sooner or later, you will start understanding what is going on and see your situations clearer.

9. Concerning "Framboise in Pervertville", what was the most difficult aspect of creating this product?

On the game, you will see that Framboise needs some money. (sorry, no spoilers ;-) First, I created a "Dog Sex Studio" where she can earn some cash with bestiality movies. But it looked a bit easy, so that I decided to make an arcade mini game with money prize as alternative. To choose what game to use was the most difficult part. I tried some sort of Tetris, Sokoban, or ever blackjack card game, but these looked bad. It took about a week for the decision with current mini game.

10. Your products often contain "torture" and "bestiality," so called "taboo" themes yet these are in fact very popular themes among Doujin fans. Please tell us about your commitment/passion toward these themes.

Your question contains the answer. Extreme is popular, so let's make products with extreme! Extreme makes money. The products with a picture of a girl and having sex with a guy – probably earn nothing. Replace a guy with a dog, add a monkey/donkey/monster – you'll get sales. It is for a commercial reason. Customers want these products. On the other hand, you need to be creative enough, perverted enough and – why not - you need a sense of humor and self-irony to make contents ever hotter. As an adult guy, it is not hard to become such a creator at all.

11. From where do you draw your greatest inspiration to create your products?

Classic artists like Farrel, Pichard, and Hines.

12. What is the most important consideration when you are developing your products? What element is the most important to you?

Game speed and memory management. I have an old PC with 4GB memory and 1GHz something processor for testing. If the game runs stable for several hours with 30fps, it is an ok sign for me.

13. What tools or software do you use when you are creating your products?

Photoshop and Poser for art. I use DAZ Studio and Bryce as well. Goldwave for music and sound effects.Game Engine is used for some clone of Basic language and assembly of critical sections.

14. How do you enjoy spending your time when you are not working? Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

Cooking.

15. So many users are enjoying your products, and they are curious what you have in the works for your next project. Can you provide a preview of what you are working on now for future release? Also, please let us know your goals for your future.?

I'll be extremely busy for next 3-4 month with current job for getting my salary. After that, I hope I can get back to Framboise and her adventures.

16. You have been so very successful in this field. Do you have any advice for new developers to help inspire them?

I'm not so famous for giving advices... Anyway, I have a couple of words for newbies: 1) If you start a project – finish it. A bad product is better than nothing. 1) Never pay attention to negative feedbacks. Go ahead, don't give up. Remember, you are a creator.

15. Any message for your fans?

Thanks for you all who purchased my products. Hope you have a great time playing with these. Will be glad to reply to your emails.
