Interview: PileN (December 2016)

Interview: PileN
This month our interview features the cricle PileN who creates great RPG "Maid X Demon: Mari's First Job"!! We hope you enjoy the read!

Thank you so much for this interview! To start things off, could you please introduce yourself to the DLsite.com users?

Hi everyone, I'm PileN. I'm here to make ero games for you!

How did you come up with your Circle’s name PileN?

It was taken from my second name, and I use it as a nickname in the online games.

"Maid X Demon: Mari's First Job" is the first product you published on DLSite.com. Prior to your success with "Maid X Demon: Mari's First Job" on DLSite.com, were you involved as a contributor to other products?

No. I had never done anything like that. Before this project, I was not much interested in drawing. When I was in school, writing compositions was an impossible thing to me.

What led to becoming a professional game programmer? Was there something that specifically triggered your desire to begin programming?

Professional game programmer... It sounds too cool for me. I used the RPG Maker; it's a pretty simple program. Of course at the beginning, I had to look for tutorials. Mostly, you need to remember a sequence of actions in your product. For me, games are the only way that you can tell a story. It is quite easy and a good way. If you do not draw very well, the text can offset it, and vice versa. And then, the game will be connected with your depraved fantasies into one plot.

Why did you select DLsite.com to market your product?

I have thought that someday, I would learn how to draw, leave for Japan and make hentai games, manga, or visual novels... One day, I came up with an idea that I can offer a product on DLsite.com and make money with it. And these plans, which I thought it would be an indefinite future, became reality. It is now in front of me. Also, when I looked at the products on DLsite.com, I thought that I can make something like that too; I thought it was time to create something!

Have you ever purchased any products from DLsite.com? If so, who is your favorite artist/creator and what are your favorite products?

Not yet.

Your information tells that you reside in Russia. The number of Circle registrations from Russia is increasing, which is great news to us. How would you describe the gaming culture in Russia? Can you describe how popular the Japanese pop culture is in Russia now?

About Japanese pop culture, there are so many people who like it. But also, the older generation may criticize anime, manga or games because of the presence of violence or sex scenes. They may not to know that there are age restrictions on these products. Also, they may think these products are only for children. Some of them may think these products give "negative" influence to children without any evidence. This behavior is very sad, but I hope these thoughts will change in the future!

What kinds of impressions do you have of Japan and of Japanese pop-culture?

I like it very much. I think the impressions would be very diverse, but it does not matter. You can always find people who share your preferences.

"Maid X Demon: Mari's First Job" is a big hit; many users are enjoying it. For those who have not yet played it, please tell us about what they will see and can expect on this product?

I tried to write a great text in the scenes to appeal diverse users. Also, I added a bit of comedy in a couple of places.

"Maid X Demon: Mari's First Job" contains many popular features such as "Ahegao" "Maid" and "Futanari." When you were planning and creating this product, was this part the core of your planning?

Yes, from the beginning I planned to use the features of "Ahegao" and "Futanari." I also plan to use these in my future products. However, having a main character as a maid, I decided it during in the process. This question made me think that I'm going to use more maid characters in my games but not as main characters. I already have a great idea for the next one (with maids)!

From where do you draw your greatest inspiration to create your products?

Ideas can appear at any moment, but these ideas need to be remembered... so it is NECESSARY to WRITE them down! Then, think about how to transform them into a story. I come up with ideas about different types of fantasy characters, such as demons, maids, elves, etc. I then think of how the characters can appear, for example, in a scene with tentacles. Then I think what could be after that. You may find works that contain some characteristics prefer more than others. Also, you may find something new in products from different creators because each author has different ways to introduce their new ideas.

What is the most important consideration when you are developing your products? What element is the most important to you?

Silence. I sometimes use music to drown out background noises so I can concentrate.

What tools or software do you use when you are creating your products?

I use SAI, RPG, Maker VX Ace, MS Word and Excel to write text.

How do you enjoy spending your time when you are not working? Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

I watch anime and play computer games, but my main hobby is the creation of hentai games! I have been interested in it for a long time, but I never knew before that I could create it myself.

So many gamers are enjoying your games and they are curious what you have in the works for your next project. Can you provide a preview of what you are working on now for future release? Also, please let us know your goals for your future.

Right now, I am working on only the textual part of my next project. I plan to have 4 characters and the main character will be an elf nun...a battle elf nun... or maybe a human. I want to add a combat system. She needs to stop the invasion of monsters. Now, I'm writing about how she uses her body for erotic scenes. I already have ideas for scenes and how it will end. Now, I'm writing dialogue for the characters for the scenes and creating the plot. "Ahegao" and "Futanari" will remain in the next product. Goals for the future: I plan to spend a portion of the profit from my project to learn Japanese. Someday I will live in Japan. I already have ideas for approximately ten other projects. I want to produce products more often so that I need to paint faster. It requires too much time. I have also started to draw 4komas and I released it in my Pixiv account. There is only one so far and it has a strange sense of humor. I will draw more.

You have been so very successful in this field. Do you have any advice for new developers to help inspire them?

If you have something you want to do but have not started it yet, do it... right now! Start it even if you do not know how! I did not know how to draw and invent text. I had never used RPG Maker. When I realized what I really wanted to do, I started creating a story. I launched MS Word and just wrote the title. If you have an idea, write it down! Right now! Start thinking about specific details to add to it. Try to know what you want to do and start with anything within your existing capability. If you can draw, draw your characters. Write down something about who they are. Write down any details of the story you imagine. If you don’t know how to draw, set it aside for later. Once you start, your work will begin to take shape. Then you can focus on the next step and the next step and the next. Find sample pictures which seem simple enough for you and copy these. Start drawing illustrations. If it turns bad, draw another. It will be better next time because your ability is going to grow each time for sure! If you are tired, just rest. There may be times when you just want to give up. Just rest and then think about what you have done. Do you want to end it? No! You have already made the effort to let the world know about your great talent! Don’t waste that effort!

Any message for your fans?
